Sealants are a highly effective method in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth, which are the 6 year and 12 year molars in the back of the mouth. Sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored acrylic "coating" is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively "seals" the deep grooves acting as a barrier, protecting enamel from cavity causing agents such as plaque and acids. Sealants are easy to apply, and it takes only a few minutes to treat each tooth. Children are able to eat and drink right after they are applied to the tooth surface.
